Greetings are an important part of any language, and Korean is no exception. Knowing how to say “how are you” in Korean can help introduce yourself to new people, or just as a polite way to show you care about another person.
In Korean, there are two polite ways to say “how are you.” The most common way to say it is “잘 지냅니까?” (Jal jinanipnikka?) In English, this phrase can be translated to mean “How are you?”
The other more formal and polite way to say “how are you” in Korean is “어떻게 지내세요?” (Eotteoke jinaeseyo?). In English, this phrase translates to mean “How are you doing?”
No matter how you say it, “how are you” is an important phrase to learn when studying the Korean language. If you’re looking for other phrases you can use to greet someone, consider also learning “hi / hello” which is “안녕하세요” (Annyeonghaseyo) or “nice to meet you” which is “반갑습니다” (Bangapseumnida).
