Legendary hip-hop artist MF DOOM died late December 2020, Causing shock and deep mourning among his huge fan base. The cause of his death is still unknown, but it has been confirmed to be due to “natural causes” according to his family.
MF DOOM was born in London, but moved to New York with his family when he was nine. It was in the United States that he discovered rap music and held several stage names, such as ZevLove X, King Geedorah, and Viktor Vaughn. Eventually, he settled on MF DOOM when he launched his solo career.
MF DOOM became a hip-hop icon with his unique sound, experimental production, and intricate lyrics. His flow and style were vast, as each album resembled a different character, using samples from a variety of different music genres.
Released in 2004, MF DOOM’s fifth album “Mm.. Food” was one of the most appreciated albums in the hip-hop community. It includes iconic singles such as “Beef Rap” and the chart topping single “Rap Snitch Knishes” featuring rapper MF Grimm.
Apart from solo projects, MF DOOM collaborated with several outstanding underground hip-hop collectives such as KMD, Madvillain, and Viktor Vaughn. Each collaboration featured a collection of samples and unreleased beats, created by DOOM himself.
The hip-hop community remembers MF DOOM as an accomplished artist with a promising legacy. He managed to appeal to both mainstream and underground fans during his career, and his influence has been reflected in various artists such as Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt.
The hip-hop scene has lost an icon and its MCs have lost a genius yet despite his untimely departure, MF DOOM will be remembered as an eternal artist with an everlasting influence.
