September is the ninth month of the year and has thirty days. The first day of September is Labor Day in the United States, which means that for most people, September marks the start of autumn.
The month of September is closely associated with the changing of the seasons, especially when the leaves turn colors and the temperatures start to drop. During this time, many people take part in outdoor activities such as apple picking, pumpkin carving, and hayrides.
September is often a busy month for families. School starts back up, and the working world is usually back to full speed. Holidays such as Rosh Hashanah, the first of the Jewish High Holy Days, often begin in September as well.
September was named after the Latin phrase septem, which means “seven.” This was in reference to the fact that the original Roman calendar only had ten months and September was the seventh month.
September is the start of many wonderful things. For some, it is a fresh start of a new school year. For others, it is the start of a new season filled with the promise of leaves changing, cooler temperatures, and outdoor activities. No matter what, September has thirty days of opportunity and anticipation.
