One Piece is one of the most iconic and beloved anime of all time, and its hero, Luffy, is now known all around the world. While Luffy may or may not be a superhero, he does have one thing that is definitely supernatural – Gear Fourth, sometimes referred to as Advanced Armament Haki.
It’s a unique power that gives him the ability to increase his physical abilities and combat prowess exponentially. But how many gears does Luffy have, and how does it work?
Luffy currently has four Gears – Gear Second, Gear Third, Gear Fourth, and Gear Fifth. Gear Second drastically boosts his agility and speed, while Gear Third enhances his attack and defense. Gear Fourth, also known as "Boundman", doesn’t just boost his physical attributes but also grants him enhanced durability, as well as the ability to transform into a giant, muscular form. Finally, Gear Fifth is an even more advanced form of Gear Fourth, granting Luffy incredible strength and durability, along with the ability to use a unique compression-based attack called "Gomu Gomu no Mi/Gomu Gomu no King Kong Gun."
In addition to these four Gears, Luffy has a fifth and final form – the "Gomu Gomu no Onigiri". This form is the ultimate power of Gear Fourth; it increases Luffy’s physical prowess to its highest possible level, along with providing him with an invulnerable coating on his body that is able to nullify enemy attacks.
As of right now, these are the five Gears possessed by the Straw Hat Pirate captain. Each of these Gears can be utilized in a variety of ways, allowing Luffy to become even more versatile and powerful a fighter.
