7 days is equal to 168 hours. Every day has 24 hours. 7 days multiplied by 24 hours equals to 168 hours.
The Babylonians used a 7-day week, as did the early Jews and early Christians. Today, most of the world’s countries use the 7-day week system. The Hebrew and Islamic calendars also use a 7-day week followed by the rest of the month.
Weekly religious observances and the 7-day pattern are thought to first have occurred during the Babylonian captivity, when Jews living under Assyrian rule adopted some of the customs of the Babylonians. The 7-day week pattern was officially adopted by the Jews in the 5th century BCE.
The Romans adopted the 7-day week from the Jews. Around the 1st century CE, the Romans adapted the names for the days of the week to those in Latin. Most European languages and many others are based on the Latin names for the days of the week.
The practice of a 7-day week has been followed continuously up to modern times, with some religions, such as Christianity and Islam, adopting the 7-day week into their calendars.
