A gigabyte (GB) is a unit of data storage capacity that is often used to measure the size of digital files, including documents, images, music, and video. Although a gigabyte is commonly seen as a 1,000-megabyte (MB) measurement, technically it is equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes, or 1,048,576 kilobytes (KB). The abbreviation for kilobyte is "KB".
To give another example, an MP3 music file typically takes up 4 megabytes of storage, which is also equal to 4,194,304 bytes and 4,096 kilobytes. As such, there are 1,024 KB in a megabyte (MB) and 1,024 MB in a GB.
To further illustrate, a typical digital photo is of a size between 2 and 5 MB. If it’s 4 MB, that would be equal to 4,194,304 bytes and 4,096 KB. Simply put, there are 1,024 kilobytes in a megabyte and 1,024 megabytes in a gigabyte.
