Football games consist of four 15-minute quarters to make up a full 60-minute game. During the course of the game, each team has a chance to play both offense and defense. This means that every team is guaranteed to have the ball at least twice during the course of the game. Since there are four quarters in a football game, that means there are a total of eight quarters.
At the end of each quarter, the official timekeeper will typically whistle to signify the end of the period. At this point, the official scorekeeper will record the number of points scored by each team and then start the clock for the next quarter. During the halftime break, teams may make adjustments in their game plan and take some time to change out players and discuss strategy.
So as you can see, a football game consists of a total of eight quarters of 15 minutes each, in order to make up a full game of 60 minutes. The term “quarter” comes from the fact that after four consecutive quarters of football, the game will be completed and the score tallied up. The team that has the most points at the end of the game will be deemed the winner.
