The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the leading professional basketball league in the United States and Canada and has 30 teams. Established on June 6, 1946, the NBA is split into two conferences: Eastern, made up of 15 teams, and Western, with 15 teams.
The Eastern Conference teams are the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic, and Washington Wizards.
The Western Conference teams are the Golden State Warriors, LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Minneostal Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trailblazers and Utah Jazz.
Each year, the top eight teams from the Eastern and Western Conference qualify for the NBA playoffs, ultimately leading to the NBA Finals, a best-of-seven series featuring the two conference champions competing for the league title.
The NBA is the most popular professional basketball league in the world, with the most notable players coming to the league from around the globe. This global popularity of the NBA has led to a television broadcast contract with media giants such as TNT, ESPN, and ABC, allowing for out-of-country fans to watch the league’s action.
