The United States is divided into 4 different time zones. All 4 time zones cover the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and a handful of other U.S. territories. For the most part, the United States follows the daylight saving protocol, meaning clocks are moved one hour forward during the warmer months of the year, and one hour backward during the colder months.
The 4 time zones in the United States are:
• Eastern Standard Time (EST): This is the standard time zone of the eastern seaboard, and encompasses the states east of the Mississippi River, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
• Central Standard Time (CST): This time zone comprises the majority of states in the middle section of the US, including: Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, parts of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
• Mountain Standard Time (MST): This time zone is used by states and territories located in the western part of the US, including: Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada.
• Pacific Standard Time (PST): This time zone includes the states and territories of the western coast of the US, including: Alaska, Oregon, California, Washington, and the US Virgin Islands.
If you need to know the time in any of these locations, you can use an online timezone converter.
