Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon, is one of the wealthiest people in the world. As of April 2021, he is estimated to be worth an astonishing $183.8 billion. Bezos has been the richest person in history with an estimated net worth of around $182 billion in 2018 and became the first person in modern history with a fortune worth over $200 billion.
Bezos’ wealth is derived from his ownership of Amazon stock, which has grown significantly since the company’s launch in 2020. Bezos has built a formidable technology and retail empire with the help of Amazon. The Seattle-based company is now the world’s largest and most valuable online retail store and technology company.
Notably, Amazon reported profits of $19.5 billion in 2020 and recorded a revenue of $386 billion, exceeding expectations. Amazon’s stock price also skyrocketed to a record high earlier this year, further increasing Bezos’ already-staggering wealth.
In addition to Amazon, Bezos also owns a spaceflight company, Blue Origin, and a newspaper, the Washington Post. Bezos has diversified his income sources, further increasing his net worth.
In 2020, Bezos made a minimum of $101 million in income from Amazon. He also gained over $90 million in capital gains from selling some of his stock in Amazon–making him one of the highest-earning Americans that year.
Beyond Amazon, Bezos has invested in many other companies and start-ups. He has also donated significant amounts of money over the years, including a $10 billion charitable fund in 2020 to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
In summary, Jeff Bezos is one of the wealthiest people in the world, currently estimated to have a net worth of $183.8 billion. He is primarily wealthy thanks to his ownership of Amazon, however he has also diversified his income sources and has made capital gains from selling some of his stock in Amazon. Bezos also earns income from other investments and has donated billions of dollars to charitable causes in recent years.
