Bill Clinton, who served as the 42nd US president from 1993 to 2001, is 74 years old. He was born William Jefferson Blythe III on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, to Virginia Dell and William Jefferson Blythe Jr. After the death of his biological father, the future president was adopted by his stepfather, Roger Clinton, and took his surname. In 1968, Clinton graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and went on to earn a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School in 1973.
Throughout his political career, Clinton held various campaign positions and served as governor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992. He also campaigned for the Democratic Party’s presidential and vice-presidential nomination in 1988 and 1992, respectively, and was eventually elected president of the United States in 1992, beating incumbent President George H. W. Bush.
As the 42nd American president, Clinton successfully pursued numerous initiatives including the welfare reform, national budget and the diplomatic normalization of United States’ relation with Vietnam. During his presidency, the US experienced good job growth and low unemployment, allowing the nation to enter an unprecedented period of peace and economic prosperity. Clinton has been married to Hillary Rodham Clinton since 1975.
