How Old Would John Lennon Be Today

John Lennon would have been eighty years old on October 9, 2020. Lennon was born in 1940 in Liverpool, England, and sadly died in 1980 after he was shot outside of his New York City apartment.

Lennon was an integral part of the rise of the Beatles, one of the most influential rock bands in history. Lennon’s songwriting was key in the Beatles’ success as his songs were often steeped in political protest and personal reflection. He later released several albums as a solo artist, most notably “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band”, “Imagine”, and “Double Fantasy”.

It is not a stretch to imagine what Lennon would be doing if he were still alive today. It is safe to assume he would continue writing and recording music at an incredibly prolific pace. He would likely be advocating for world peace and could quite possibly be a face for progressive liberal politics. It is not uncommon for aging rock stars to take up painting as a new passion, so it may be possible that Lennon would have gone down that creative path.

It is impossible to know what significance John Lennon would have had today had he lived past 1980. It is safe to say that millions of people around the world would still be influenced by his powerful music and subversive lyrics. He dealt with difficult topics and advocated for change, and in 2020, we need more people like him to help us make the world a better place.
