Bowser, the villainous King of the Koopas in the Mario franchise, is a larger-than-life character who stands head and shoulders above most other characters in the series. But just how tall is Bowser?
In the original sprites from the Super Mario Bros. game, Bowser was depicted as being about as tall as Mario, or around 8.5 tiles (or blocks) tall. However, it’s difficult to accurately gauge Bowser’s size from these old sprites, so we decided to look at a few more recent games to get a better idea of Bowser’s height.
In the Super Smash Bros. series, Bowser is depicted as being significantly larger than Mario, standing around 4 to 5 times taller than him. According to the official Nintendo website, Bowser stands at 9’7", which translates to around 118.9" (or 3.02 meters) in the real world.
When comparing Bowser’s height to characters from other games, it’s clear that he is almost twice as tall as Alex from Street Fighter (119 cm or 3.03 m), and, other than the giant Dig Dug character, he is the tallest character in the game.
To put it into perspective, Bowser is as tall as a giraffe and over twice as tall as an average grown man!
So, after measuring various images and characters, we have determined that, on average, Bowser stands at 118.9" (or 3.02 meters) tall in the real world. With this knowledge, Bowser can proudly retake his spot on the throne as the tallest character in the Mario franchise.
