van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven was one of the most influential classical composers of all time. His music is still widely celebrated over 250 years after his famous Fifth Symphony was composed. His legendary Ninth Symphony was completed shortly before his death. One question that often arises when discussing Beethoven is how tall was he?
Throughout most of his life, Beethoven’s height was subject to much speculation. According to contemporary accounts, he stood at approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall. However, there is much debate on his exact height as some documents from his time indicate taller heights.
Beethoven was known to carry a cane and reportedly stooped more and more as he aged, suggesting he could have been taller than previously thought. There are various statues of him as he stands, and some of them are taller than five foot five. It is possible that Beethoven was simply self-conscious of his height and appeared shorter than he actually was.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Beethoven’s true height, it appears that he was a relatively short man by modern standards. He is among the shorter famous figures in history. Nonetheless, Beethoven’s impressive accomplishments have ensured that his stature remains large in the annals of music history.
