Daniel Boone was an American hero who is most well known for being an important frontiersman, explorer and trailblazer. His legacy continues to this day, as evidenced by the numerous monuments, schools and organizations bearing his name.
Daniel Boone was born on November 2, 1734 in the backwoods of Pennsylvania. He was an average-sized man, standing around 5 feet and 8 inches tall. Though this may not seem especially tall today, it was quite tall for a man of his era. In comparison, the average height for a male in the United States was roughly 5 feet and 5 inches during Boone’s lifetime.
Boone’s height served him well, allowing him to stand out in a crowd and to travel silently through dense forests and foliage. In addition, his height may have helped him to physically intimidate Native American groups he encountered during his explorations, granting him favor in their eyes.
The brave and unpredictable life of Boone has made him a figure of admiration and inspiration. Despite the fact it has been over 200 years since his death, interest in Boone remains high and his legacy appears to be here to stay – a testament to his uncanny drive and immense physical stature.
