Gregory Peck was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors. As a tall, stately figure on the silver screen he was often cast in strong roles such as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird or Johnathan in Cape Fear. But how tall exactly was Gregory Peck?
Peck himself was 6’2’’ in height. He possessed an athletic frame and a natural grace that made him appear taller than he actually was. It was this aspect of his stature that made it possible for Peck to appear convincing in any role.
In comparison to his co-stars, Peck was considered tall. But, his true height was made even more visible when he starred alongside the diminutive Greer Garson, with whom he stood against in Since You Went Away. With Garson a mere 5’4’’ tall, the contrast was quite stark.
In fact, one of Peck’s most famous roles, Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, was a character that was tall & stately on the page but which, in the hands of Peck, seemed larger than life. His 6’2’’ stature and expressive face allowing him to depict the character in a very convincing manner.
Overall, Gregory Peck was 6’2’’ in height and this added to the appeal of many of his iconic roles, as well as making him appear more convincing in his performances. His stature also contrasted well with some of his co-stars, such as Greer Garson, showing that height mattered when it came to getting the right imagery and feeling on screen.
