Juice Wrld, the beloved American singer, rapper, and songwriter, tragically passed away on December 8, 2019, at the age of 21 from an accidental drug overdose. Before his death, Juice Wrld, who was born Jarad Anthony Higgins in Chicago, Illinois, on December 2, 1998, became known for his popular singles "All Girls Are The Same”, “Lucid Dreams", and "Robbery".
Home to many talented artists and musicians, Chicago’s hip-hop and rap music scene has produced acclaimed performers like Common, Chance the Rapper, Kanye West, and now Juice Wrld. Though he was of average build, Juice Wrld was actually quite tall, standing at 6’3”. In comparison, the average man in the United States is 5’10”.
In an album release and interview with Rolling Stone in 2019, the talented artist explained that he’d argued with his father about his music as a child, but that he was now thankful for his dad. Juice Wrld said of his father, "He was tall and stern, so I was always trying to reach his level. Height-wise, of course."
On his Instagram page, Juice Wrld frequently posted pictures of his 36 siblings, father, and mother. Like many of the families in Chicago, Juice Wrld’s remained close throughout the years. His tall stature undoubtedly provided a source of strength for his large family.
The tall stature that allowed Juice Wrld to lend comfort to his family and friends was not just a physical attribute. In an interview with HighSnobiety, Juice Wrld said that standing tall meant representing himself in the best way. "I constantly try to stand up as tall as I can: to my height, my beliefs, what I was born to do and for the people around me."
During his career, Juice Wrld made fans around the world feel heard and understood by creating music that correlated to his own struggles. His dedicated work, ambition, and height all contributed to the impact he made both through his music and his life.
