Braiding hair for yourself or someone else is a fun and creative way to style your hair. For centuries, plaiting hair has been practiced in many cultures around the world for both aesthetic reasons and for its practical value. Learning to braid hair is not complicated once you know the basics. Here is a step-by-step guide to the most basic type of braiding – the three-strand braid.
Separate your hair into three equal sections, creating a three-strand braid. Secure each section with a hair elastic.
Take the right section of hair and cross it over to the left. Do the same with the left section of hair, but this time cross it over to the right.
Take the right section of hair again and cross it over to the left. Do the same with the left section. Continue this pattern until you reach your desired length.
Secure the braid with a hair elastic at the end.
If you’re having trouble with the technique, try using a smaller section of hair and fewer strands. When you’re confident with the technique you can start braiding in more hair as you go or try more advanced braiding styles. With a bit of practice you will soon be braiding like a pro!
