Nike’s Air Max 97 has been around since 1997, and its popularity is still going strong. This attention-grabbing sneaker is a favorite among runners and sneakerheads alike, thanks in part to its iconic lacing system. If you want to show off the unique style of the Air Max 97, take a look at the instructions below for confidently lacing up this sneaker correctly.
Remove Laces From Shoes – Before you begin lacing up your Air Max 97, remove the laces that come with the shoe. These laces will be too short for the Air Max 97’s unique lacing system. Use a pair of laces that are at least 53" (135cm) long.
Start at the Bottom – Insert the lace into the bottom eyelet on the left side of the shoe and bring it up to the right side. Run the lace across the outside of the shoe and insert it into the top eyelet on the right side. Cross the lace to the inside of the shoe, inserting it into the upper eyelet on the left side.
Continue Lacing – You’ll now be ready to start the zigzag lacing pattern that Air Max 97 users are familiar with. Run the lace across the outside of the shoe and insert it into the middle eyelet on the right side. Cross the lace to the inside, through the middle eyelet on the left side. Continue this pattern, taking the lace up the shoe and skipping each other eyelet on the way.
Tie Off – Once you reach the top of the shoe, tie off the laces in a standard bow knot. Be sure to thread the laces over and under each other as you tie the knot – this will ensure that your laces stay properly tightened.
That’s all there is to it! Now you should have your beloved Air Max 97 sneaker laced up with the signature zigzag pattern. Enjoy the ride and the looks your signature lacing system draws!
