In recent years, lucid dreaming has become a trendy topic for both spiritual and scientific conversations. Lucid dreaming is essentially controlling the outcome of your dreams, essentially a form of conscious dreaming which allows you to be aware that you are dreaming and gain control. Lucid dreaming has many great benefits to your mental health, including enhanced mental clarity, creativity and even personal growth.
Here are some strategies to help you begin to lucid dream.
Get to know your dreams
The first step to start lucid dreaming is to become familiar with your dreams. This is easier if you start by keeping a dream journal where you document your nightly dreams. Just before going to bed each night, focus on what may happen in your dreams. In this way, you can start to see the patterns of your dream landscapes and become aware of the triggers that lead to lucid dreaming.
Develop self-awareness
The key to lucid dreaming is to become aware of the dream state once you are inside the dream. You can practice developing your self-awareness and listening to your subconscious by doing simple mindfulness or meditation practices, or focusing on your daily thoughts and actions and noticing how they influence your dreams.
Rewrite reality
This is a great method to use to gain imaginative control within a dream. Once you become aware that you are dreaming, focus on your intentions, and try to conduct some sort of action that will alter the course of the dream. For example, changing people’s behavior, changing the dream landscape, or even using any supernatural power you have within the dream.
Use reality checks
To help trigger lucid dreaming, perform “reality checks” throughout the day. For example, look in the mirror and question if you could be dreaming, or assess the sudden presence of unusual objects in your surrounding. Reality checks will help you stay conscious when inside the dream and develop your self-awareness.
Set Lucid dreaming intentions
Once you become accustomed to the dreamscape, you can set lucid dreaming intentions to improve the outcome of your dreams. Choose an intention and focus on it prior to dozing off, like repeating the phrase “This is a dream” to yourself, or visualizing what you want to dream about. Intentions can also range from healing meditation to problem-solving.
Lucid dreaming is an exciting journey to embark on, but it can take some practice. By following these tips and honing in on developing self-awareness, you can become a lucid dreamer in no time!
