Making cake is a simple and satisfying way to show your love and appreciation. Whether you’re making it for friends or family, they’ll appreciate the effort and love that went into it. Here’s how to make the perfect cake.
Gather all the ingredients. You will need: all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and either buttermilk or regular milk. Also, if you want to make something more special, you’ll need frosting and decorations.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Grease an 8- or 9-inch cake pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray, and set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until everything is combined.
With an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Then add the eggs one at a time, making sure to beat each one properly.
Add the vanilla extract.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until the batter is just combined. Do not over mix.
Lastly, add the buttermilk/milk.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Once the cake is done, let it cool for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a cooling rack. Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing and serving. If you’re making a layered cake, use a serrated knife to cut the cakes in half horizontally.
Once the cakes are cool and cut, spread a layer of buttercream frosting over one of the layer.
Stack the other layer over the first. Cover the entire cake with frosting.
Make sure to frost the sides and top with a thick layer of frosting. Decorate the cake with sprinkles, nuts, chocolate curls or whatever you’d like.
