Sticky rice is a popular Asian dish that can be served along with a variety of other meals or made into a dessert such as mochi. Making sticky rice is surprisingly easy and time efficient, making it the perfect dish for busy weeknights or family gatherings. Here’s how to make perfect sticky rice every time.
You will need:
-1 cup long-grain white or jasmine rice
-1 ½ cups water
-Salt to taste
Step One: Bring 1 ½ cups of water to boil in a saucepan.
Step Two: Once the water is boiling, add one cup of rice and a pinch of salt.
Step Three: Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for about 12 minutes.
Step Four: Remove from the heat and let stand for 10 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
Step Five: Fluff with a fork and transfer to a serving bowl.
Your perfect sticky rice is now ready to be served! If you’d like to make the rice more flavorful, you can add small pieces of vegetables or herbs such as scallions, garlic, ginger, or cilantro before cooking. Additionally, you can replace the white or jasmine rice with brown rice, although this will increase the cooking time to 17 minutes. Enjoy!
