Tortillas are a staple of Mexican cooking, and they’re easy to make at home too! Making your own tortillas is a fun, delicious way to enjoy Mexican cuisine, and they can be used in an amazing variety of dishes. Here’s how to make your own tortillas.
Ingredients:
-2 Cups all-purpose flour
-1 teaspoon baking powder
-1 teaspoon salt
-1/3 cup vegetable oil
-3/4 cups warm water
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Add in the vegetable oil and mix until combined.
Slowly add in the warm water, mixing with a fork of spoon until the dough starts to come together.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
Divide the dough into 8-10 balls and flatten each one into a disk.
Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat.
Working with one disk at a time, roll the dough out until it’s uniformly thin.
Place the tortilla onto the hot griddle. Cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned, then flip and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes.
Transfer the cooked tortilla to a plate and cover with a clean kitchen towel while you cook the remaining tortillas.
