For drivers owning a Mini Cooper, the process for opening the hood of their vehicle may seem confusing if they’ve never done it before. Fortunately, the process is quite straightforward. Depending on your year model, the process to open the hood may vary slightly; however, most models will incorporate the same basic steps.
For Mini Cooper vehicles of 2002-2005
Push the hood release located inside the car, at the bottom left of the dashboard.
Locate the hood latch in the center of the grille.
Pull the hood latch up, making sure your hand is not in the way of the hood latch.
Lift the hood and prop it up with the hood prop rod, located near the hood latch.
For Mini Cooper vehicles of 2006-Present
Push the hood release located inside the car, at the bottom left of the dashboard.
Locate the hood latch, housed inside of a small pop-open housing directly above the windscreen.
Pull the hood latch release up, making sure your hand is not in the way of the hood latch.
Lift the hood and prop it up with the hood prop rod, located near the hood latch.
Whether you own a Mini Cooper of 2002-2005 or 2006-Present, the process is easy and you’ll soon be able to check out the engine compartment. Make sure to close the hoods gently, and not to lean on them when checking the engine as this could cause damage. Additionally, be careful not to pinch your hands when closing the hood. Always remember to use the hood prop rod, located near the hood latch, to keep the hood propped and secure while the engine compartment is open.
