Radicals, or roots (such as squaring, or cubing root) are used frequently in math. Simplifying radicals is important to be able to solve equations and other problems. Here is a guide on how to simplify radicals so that you can ensure you get the right answer.
Identify the radicand (the number under the radical sign).
Factor the radicand (the number beneath the radical sign) by identifying common factors of the number.
Take the square root of the radicand (the number beneath the radical sign) of each of the factors.
Multiply the square roots together to get the simplified radical.
If there is a decimal, reduce it using the same procedure of factoring, taking the square root, and then multiplying them together.
