For many, the Rubik’s Cube has long been a source of frustration, taking all the energy and effort thrown at it and, in an instant, completely thwarting all attempts at solving it. But, contrary to popular belief, the Rubik’s Cube can be solved – you just need to know what the correct sequence of moves is. With enough practice and familiarity, anyone can learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube.
The first step is to orient the cube (rotate it so the colored sides are at the top, bottom, left, and right). This will make it easier to keep track of what you’re doing.
Once it has been oriented, use one finger to move any of the six edges shown on the cube. From this point on, the correct sequence of moves will depend on the desired outcome for the cube.
There are a few broadly accepted systems and algorithms for solving the cube, and each of them contains a series of steps that, when followed correctly, will solve the cube. If you are just beginning, you can use the beginner’s method which involves solving the cube layer by layer.
Start by orienting the colored side of one face (all the same’s color). This can be done in any order, as long as all nine blocks are the same color.
Next, take the second layer in the same color and orient it, one block at a time, with the third layer. Make sure to get each side aligned correctly before turning onto the next side.
Now, solve the third layer. This layer will require a bit more structuring because the cubes need to fit together in order for the puzzle to be solved. Flick one of the top layers and rotate it until the edge requested for insertion is correctly aligned with the cube that needs to be inserted. Then rotate the other side until the green arrows match up and insert the bottom layer into the correct position.
When the first three layers have been solved, bring the top layer back to its original place and solve the last layer by twisting around to bring the exposed corners into their proper position. This can take some practice to get it just right.
Once all of the layers have been solved, the cube will be complete. Congratulations—you have just solved the Rubik’s Cube!
And there you have it – a step-by-step guide to solving the Rubik’s Cube. With enough practice, you will be able to solve this popular puzzle in no time!
