Eye twitching can be extremely annoying, not to mention quite embarrassing. It occurs when a tiny muscle in your eyelid, called the orbicularis oculi, starts twitching uncontrollably. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to stop your eyelid from twitching.
Get Plenty of Sleep: This is the first and most important thing you should do when trying to stop eye twitching. Lack of sleep is one of the most common causes of eye twitching. Aim to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and make sure you are getting quality sleep.
Manage Your Stress: Stress is another major factor in eye twitching, so doing things to reduce stress can help to stop the twitching. Try to find ways to relax, such as yoga, meditation, journaling, or deep breathing.
Exercise Regularly: Exercise can help to reduce stress and improve your overall health. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise each day.
Reduce Caffeine, Alcohol and Tobacco: Caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco can all have an effect on eye twitching. Cut back on these substances, and see if that helps to reduce the twitching.
Use a Warm Compress: If your eye twitching persists, try using a warm compress. Soak a clean washcloth in warm water and hold it over your closed eyelid for 10 minutes several times a day.
See an Eye Doctor: If you’ve tried all of the above tips and your eye twitching still persists, see an eye doctor. They may be able to diagnose any underlying eye issues and offer treatment options.
