Tying a bowtie on one’s own can be a daunting task, though with a few simple steps it can be done with ease. Below are instructions for putting on a bowtie that looks polished, professional and ready for any stylish occasion.
Step One: Preparing
Start by measuring the size of your neck, and then use a cloth tape measure to select the right length bowtie. Hold the bowtie up around your neck and ensure it’s just long enough to fit with a few centimetres of spare material left at the end.
Step Two: Placement
Place the bowtie around your neck with the right side facing up, and then cross its short end over the long end. This cross should rest on your sternum, the area between your collarbone.
Step Three: Making the First Bow
Take the long end of the bowtie and bring it over the short end. Fel with the two ends to ensure they’re both even, then make a bow by passing the long end through the loop at the base of the knot.
Step Four: Making the Second Bow
Pinch the middle of the bow created in step three and then place the longer end of the bowtie over the second part of the bow. Make sure the creases are facing forward, tug slightly on the material, and then bring the opposite end up and over the third part of your bow.
Step Five: Completion
Tug slightly on the bow to even out any wrinkles. Trim any excess material from the end, and you’re done!
Having tried all of the steps, you should now be able to confidently wear a bowtie with pride. Now all you need is the right outfit, and you’re ready to put your newfound knowledge to the test.
