Bidets are a great way to clean and refresh yourself without the need for paper, but they may be foreign to many. With a few simple steps and some practice, learning how to correctly use a bidet can become second nature in no time.
First, begin by getting familiar with the bidet and its features. Most have faucets, spray nozzles, sidearms, and other features, such as heating and air dryers. Many bidets come with directions, so consult them if necessary. Before use, also make sure the temperature settings are correct and that it’s clean and free of debris.
Now, it’s time to get situated. Straddle the bidet so it’s accessible for both hands. Then, it’s a good idea to turn on the water before aiming the sprayer to ensure the stream isn’t too hot or cold. Adjust the temperature and pressure as necessary.
When ready, start slowly. Allow the stream to move slowly over the area you want to clean, so you don’t experience too much pressure at once. This would also be a good time to use some soap or bidet cleaning solution as well.
When finished, use the sidearm or a towel to pat yourself dry. For extra drying, many bidets have built-in air dryers, which can be adjusted using the settings.
After use, turn the sprayer and faucet off, and flush the toilet to clear away soap and debris. To sanitize your hands afterwards, wash with soap and warm water.
Learning how to use a bidet may seem daunting at first, but if you keep these steps in mind, you’ll have it down in no time. The whole process should take about 3 minutes.
