“Boys Who Cry” first made a name for themselves as a punchline in the movie 27 Dresses. The band, which was characterized as a “really bad emo rock band”, was the butt of a joke by the lead character.
Since then, “Boys Who Cry” has gone through several revivals and has even become a real touring band. They’re known for their energetic live performances and original songs, which often feature angsty lyrics and catchy pop-punk melodies.
The band members include Jermaine Smith, Sam Nunes, Robert Walter, Brendan LaPell, and Luke Schneeberger. Smith and Walter had known each other since middle school and played together in various bands throughout high school before deciding to form “Boys Who Cry” in 2010.
Since then, the band has released multiple albums and EPs and have accomplished quite a bit in the music industry. They’ve played shows around the country, have been featured in publications like Alternative Press and Punk News, and have even opened for some established acts like Motion City Soundtrack and Alkaline Trio.
So, yes, “Boys Who Cry” is a real band. Despite being the source of a joke at one point in time, they’ve managed to turn themselves into a legitimate indie rock act and have even developed a strong and dedicated fan base.
