When it comes to performing certain tasks, there’s often a right way and wrong way to do it. Unfortunately for many people, there always seems to be someone else who does it the wrong way, leading to a ton of confusion and frustration for the rest of us.
It’s the classic phrase "That’s not how any of this works". But what exactly does that mean, and why do we say it?
Essentially, it means that someone is trying to do something that doesn’t make sense or is not intended to achieve the desired result. It’s a common phrase uttered when someone is trying to take shortcuts or lacks the knowledge to execute a task correctly.
Unfortunately, this phrase is often used in an unproductive way. It’s easy to get frustrated and even angry when someone isn’t following the given instructions, but instead of retaliating with a negative comment like this, it’s better to explain what needs to be done correctly to achieve the desired result.
That’s not how any of this works can also be used as a way to remind yourself to stay focused on the task at hand and not get distracted. This phrase is a reminder that even if the task might seem complex and difficult, there is a way to get it done correctly.
While it’s important to remember that mistakes happen and that we learn from our mistakes, it’s also important to understand that certain tasks require thought and attention to detail in order to be done successfully. So the next time you hear someone say That’s not how any of this works, take a moment to reflect and ensure that you know exactly how these things work.
