For years, the BeyHive have been trying to figure out who Jay Z allegedly cheated on Beyonce with. Although the couple’s "Lemonade" album seemed to be filled with clues and speculation, the identity of Jay Z’s alleged mistress remained unknown — until recently.
In the February 2021 issue of Vanity Fair, Jay Z and Beyonce both confirmed that the woman at the heart of their marital woes was indeed singer and songwriter, "Becky with the good hair."
The term "Becky with the good hair" first appeared on the song "Sorry" from Beyonce’s 2016 album, "Lemonade," which many interpreted as a diss track aimed at Jay Z’s reported infidelity. In the song, Beyonce sang, "He better call Becky with the good hair."
In the Vanity Fair interview, Jay Z confirmed the lyric was indeed about a supposed other woman. He revealed "Becky with the good hair" was an amalgam of the women he was accused of being involved with, but that there was no one person who fit the description perfectly.
Since the song’s release and the Vanity Fair interview, the BeyHive has speculated who could have been Jay Z’s alleged "Becky." While some have linked the term to stylist Rachel Roy and disgraced socialite Rita Ora, no further information as to who Jay Z cheated on Beyonce with has been confirmed.
No matter who it was, it seems that Jay Z and Beyonce have been able to put the past behind them, find their way back to each other, and build an even stronger bond. They are still husband and wife, and continue to collaborate both professionally and creatively, proving that love and understanding can transcend even the most painful of experiences.
