in Hitch
In the 2005 romantic-comedy film Hitch, Will Smith plays the role of Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, a professional "date doctor" who specializes in helping men to land dates with the women they love. Throughout the movie, there is a popular scene where Will Smith’s character slaps an arrogant Manhattan millionaire who tries to hit on his female client.
The character Will Smith slaps is named Vance "Mister" Munson, and is played by actor Jeff Kahn. The scene begins with Hitch waiting outside a restaurant, where he is supposed to be having a date consultation with his client, Albert (played by Kevin James). However, when Albert stands up to the arrogant Vance, Hitch is forced to intervene and take Albert’s side. When things get too heated, Hitch winds up slapping Vance across the face, saying, "That my promise that no matter what, no matter when, no matter who…any man, anywhere, tries to intervenes between a man and his date, I will step in". Though it gets a laugh from the viewers, it’s also a serious stand against bullies and displays Hitch’s sense of loyalty to his clients.
The scene ends with Albert and Hitch walking off together, a testament to Hitch’s commitment to helping those in need. The slapping scene has since become one of the most iconic moments in the movie, and serves as an example of how important it is to stick up for the people you care about.
