Swamp People, the History Channel’s hit show featuring Louisiana bayou natives in pursuit of alligator hunting, has seen its fair share of tragedy since its premiere in 2010. Here are some of the cast members who have died since then.
Troy Landry
Troy Landry, the “King of the Swamp” and leader of the Landry Family, passed away in 2019 at the age of 70. He had been a fixture on the show since its premier. His last words were “never give up, never surrender”. Landry had survived lung cancer earlier in life and was well known for his passion and dedication for alligator hunting.
Gueydan Blanchard
Gueydan Blanchard, 20, was a long-time hunter on the show and was mentored by Troy Landry. In 2018, Blanchard passed away after a tragic incident involving an alligator he was hunting. He had been pulled underwater and his body was later recovered from the bayou.
Willie Edwards
Willie Edwards, a longtime hunter and a friend of Troy Landry, died in 2013 at the age of 67. He had been on the show since its beginning, becoming known as the “meatman of the swamp”. He was described as a “true Cajun” and is remembered for his strong faith and passion for the outdoors.
Joseph "Joe" LaFont
Joseph “Joe” LaFont, 60, passed away in 2016. LaFont was a prominent hunter on the show and had a reputation for being an experienced alligator trapper. He was a soft-spoken man and was remembered for his family values and dedication to his job.
These are only a few of the hunters who have died in the time Swamp People has been airing. They are remembered for their strength, courage, and passion for hunting, and will be greatly missed by the cast and their families.
