Who from Whoville is a children’s cartoon that aired originally on CBS, but later syndicated on Cartoon Network in the United States, featuring characters from the beloved Dr. Seuss stories and adapted into a thirty-minute cartoon program.
The cartoon centered around the lead character and Mayor of Whoville, Mayor Hubert H. Humphrey. Mayor Humphrey is a kind and wise Whoville leader who cares deeply for all the Who-people no matter what their size and shape. He was also always willing to help them whenever he could. The other main characters in the show are the Who-people, always eager to help each other. They’re a hilarious group, with humor and adventure to spare, who often found themselves in wacky and surprising situations.
The Who-people live in Whoville, a quaint and colorful hill-top town surrounded by a wooded area with a strong environmental focus. There are a variety of wild animals who live in and around the town, including the Sulley Bird and his friend, an American Wood-Thrush. Other Whoville characters included a mailman and wild animals such as the snazzy Snorboop and the playful Bert Mumbles.
The show ran for two seasons, with a total of forty-eight episodes aired, each with a moral lesson about helping others, environmental awareness and accepting others, regardless of size or shape. Who from Whoville has won multiple awards and nominations, including an Annie Award and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program in 2004. To this day, Who from Whoville is widely praised and beloved by all who watched it, and still holds up as one of the best cartoons of the early 2000’s.
