The All American is a title that has a long and storied history in American sports. It’s a title that has been given to some of the greatest athletes to ever compete in their various sports. The All American is typically an individual athlete or team that is the very best in their given sport.
The most iconic example of an All American is the late John Wooden, the legendary UCLA men’s basketball coach who led the Bruins to ten NCAA titles over his career. Wooden was named an All American coach in 1964, the same year he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Michael Jordan is another All American legend. His illustrious career as a Chicago Bulls player earned him the title of being the greatest basketball player of all-time. His accomplishments include six NBA titles, five MVP Awards, and numerous other accolades.
In baseball, the All American mantle shifts between teams and players. In the modern era, one of the most recognizable All American teams is the New York Yankees, who have won a dozen World Series championships and dominated baseball throughout the 1990s and 2000s. These individuals are all legendary figures in their respective sports and without a doubt deserving of the All American title.
