Jon Voight is an Academy Award-winning actor and the father of A-list actress Angelina Jolie. The two have had a tumultuous relationship ever since the precipitations of their divorce in the late 1970s.

The strong-willed Jon Voight was born in Yonkers, New York and raised in the Bronx. He studied at the Catholic University of America and began his acting career while in college. Voight had roles in a few TV shows and movies before he started to get noticed for his performances. In 1969, he earned his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his part in the movie Midnight Cowboy.

Voight married Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, in 1971 and the couple had two children, Angelina and her brother, James Haven. Voight and Bertrand divorced in 1976 and both gained full custody of Jolie and Haven. After their separation, Voight was involved with other women and rarely here from his two children. This continued until 1987 when Angelina cut off all communication with her father.

It wasn’t until 2002 that Jolie and Voight reconnected while filming the spy blockbuster Tomb Raider. The father-daughter duo enjoyed some time on the set and Voight commented to reporters that it felt nice to have his daughter back in his life. The reconciliation process continued over the following couple years with Jolie confirming in the media that things between the two had gotten better.

In spite of the ups and downs in their relationship, Voight remains a steady supporter of Jolie’s multiple humanitarian causes. He is an executive producer of the $10.2 million dollar animated-film “Kung Fu Panda” – a movie close to his heart because it was co-written and co-directed by Brad Pitt, Jolie’s ongoing partner.

Voight has also taken on a grandfathering role of Jolie’s and Pitt’s six kids – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox. With his daughter in good company, the two were able to truly come together and learn to appreciate one another after all those years.

Today, Jon Voight is a veteran actor who continues to perform and has remained in the public eye since the late 1960s. Thanks to his exceptional talent, Voight has earned a reputation as one of the most respected film actors of his time.
