Who Is Banksy

Banksy is the pseudonym of a widely known British graffiti artist whose identity remains unknown. Since the 1990s, he has been extensively noted for his socially and politically provocatively charged artwork. Banksy’s artwork has gained a tremendous following and appeared in galleries around the world, including in the US, UK, Australia, parts of Europe, and Japan.

Banksy rose to fame by creating witty and thought-provoking art. His artwork includes sculptures, stenciled graffiti, murals, and installation pieces made of a variety of material, including street signs, wood, discarded objects, and even a piece of the British Parliament. His artworks often provide a critical commentary on contemporary social and political issues, such as consumerism, corporate greed, and war.

Many of Banksy’s works remain anonymous and it is believed that he works around the clock to create artwork on behalf of the anonymous collective he created. This collective’s mission is to “to capture the imaginations of people with radical artwork in order to protest the powers that be."

Although Banksy’s identity is unknown, he has been graffitiing since the early 1990s, gradually gaining recognition from the art world. Many of his artworks have been observed throughout various cities in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. Although Banksy’s work is somewhat controversial, it has wide appeal and has been reproduced in countless forms of merchandise. In 2010, Banksy established his own film production company and released the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.

Banksy’s growing fame and recognition of his artwork has resulted in numerous acts of vandalism, including breaking into museums and galleries in order to insert his work and ones who steal banksy’s artwork to make profits. Despite the illegal acts that surround Banksy, he remains popular and continues to be a driving force in the street art and graffiti community.
