The debate of who is the greatest tennis player of all time can be highly controversial and debated amongst sport professionals and fans alike. When it comes to the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena Williams, it can be hard to choose who is better.
Both Serena and Venus are two of the most successful and popular female tennis players of all time. Serena is ranked number one in Women’s Singles and she has an impressive 23 Grand Slam singles titles. She is also the oldest women to win a Grand Slam singles title and she was the first female athlete to win titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the same Grand Slam. Furthermore, she has had numerous career awards, such as the Best Female Tennis Player ESPY Award in 2012.
Meanwhile, Venus is currently number eleven in the WTA Singles rankings and has seven Grand Slam singles titles. She is tied as the most successful female player of the Open Era in terms of major singles titles. She was also the first African American woman to be ranked number one in the world. Outside of the game, she has also achieved numerous awards, such as the Women’s Sports Foundation Billie Jean King Contribution Award in 2017.
Although both sisters have secured their places in history, the debate over who is the better player continues to rage on. Some argue that Serena has an advantage because she has won more Grand Slam titles, whereas others argue that Venus has overcome greater adversity in her career and so deserves more recognition.
At the end of the day, it is extremely hard to compare these two great players and the debate may never end. It is safest to conclude that they are both incredible tennis players that have achieved tremendousThings in their respective careers and should be commended for their accomplishments.
