Bob Saget is an American stand-up comedian, actor, television host, and game show host best known as the star of the family sitcom Full House (1987–1995) and host of America’s Funniest Home Videos (1989–1997).
Saget was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a Jewish family, the son of Rosalyn "Roz" (née Lansman), a hospital volunteer, and Benjamin M. Saget, a plastic surgeon. His parents separated when he was young, but never divorced and re-married in the early 1990s. He is the oldest of three brothers, in which one of them is a war veteran suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
Saget went to college at Temple University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Communications before attending Drexel University, where he got an M.A. in Broadcasting in 1977. During his university years, he also worked as a DJ at a local radio station. His road to success began after he got his first professional gig as a writer for In Living Color (1991).
He’s also known for his time on various TV shows, including playing the character of Danny Tanner on the ABC sitcom Full House (1987–1995). Saget was also the host the NBC game show 1 vs. 100 (2006–2008) and the CBS television version of America’s Funniest Videos (1989–1997).
Saget’s style of stand-up comedy is often similar to his sitcoms and television hosting, with lighthearted, humorous observations often about his personal relationships and whimsical recollections of events. It is also often very self-deprecating and notable for its use of blue humor, mockery of societal norms, and observations. He’s also
published two books: Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian (2014), a memoir, and That’s What I’m Talking About (2018), a book of essays.
Outside of his performance career, Saget is an advocate for numerous charities and has raised money for clinical cancer pathways, food banks, reducing poverty, and increasing access to healthcare. He is an ambassador for the Norwood Project, which advocates for healthy lifestyle and legal technology, and is a spokesperson for the Epilepsy Foundation. In 2014, Saget was invited to speak at the United Nations in a campaign to reduce HIV occurring among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa.
