Davy Jones is a former English singer, actor, musician, and teen idol who gained fame as a member of the legendary 1960s rock band The Monkees. Born in Manchester, England, on December 30, 1945, under the name David Thomas Jones, he began performing in local theater when he was just 11 years old. From 1964 to 1968, Jones was part of the Monkees, a music and television band created by television producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider.
His work with the Monkees saw him rise to global fame and helped Capitol Records, who distributed the group’s records, break into the rock market. During his time with the band, their television show was a hit and four movie soundtracks featured the band’s music. Even after the group’s split, Jones continued to use the "Davy Jones" name as his stage name, while maintaining a career as a performer.
During his career as a solo artist, he released six albums and 23 singles, along with his last album, UK Jive. Additionally, he made guest appearances on a variety of television shows, including Brady Bunch and Lovebug. He also acted in movies such as Head, The Monkees movie 1967, and Hard Days Night.
In recent years, Jones has led more of a civic life, with his primary focus on helping underprivileged children and the elderly. On February 29, 2012, Jones passed away from an acute myocardial infarction, at the age of 66. His legacy as a musician and actor will always be remembered.
