West?
Donda West was a renowned educator and mother of one of the most famous musicians in history, Kanye West. She was born on October 14th, 1949, in North Chicago, Illinois and went on to have a distinguished career that made her an important source of inspiration for her son Kanye.
She obtained a master’s degree in English from Chicago State University and served as Professor of English at the same institution. West was also a Chair of Academic Advisement at the same college. Her passion for education and dedication to students earned her the respect of the staff and those around her.
In 2006, West decided to engage in her son’s career, becoming his manager and acting as an adviser for the rapper. She also had an active role in Kanye’s two clothing lines, Pastelle and Dw by Kanye West, his philanthropic endeavors and his educational initiatives.
In 2007, she faced tragedy when her son decided to drop out of college. Donda didn’t support the move initially but then, changed her mind and decided to believe in her son’s dream.
Unfortunately, Donda West passed away in 2007, due to a number of ailments, including heart failure. Kanye still honors her memory and often goes back to his mother’s wise words. Her resourcefulness, dedication, and courage, along with her decision to walk the path of belief and support, have been a strong source of inspiration to her famous son and the world.
