For fans of the hit teen drama Gossip Girl, it should come as no surprise that the mysterious and elusive Gossip Girl has been referred to as a source of information, rumor, and gossip for the elite of the Upper East Side since the show’s inception in 2007. After six seasons and over 121 episodes of thrilling drama, Gossip Girl has become a pop culture icon. But who, or what, is Gossip Girl?
It turns out, that even after all these years, the identity of Gossip Girl is still largely a mystery. It is known that Gossip Girl is a powerful entity, orchestrating all the drama that takes place in the fictional world of the Upper East Side. She is the one who sends out all the juicy tidbits of information and gossip to the masses.
For the majority of the show, Gossip Girl is never seen in person. She is often spoken about, but rarely seen. Instead, she communicates with her followers through her omnipresent voice and her private blog that appears to have exclusive access to the lives of the most powerful people in the world.
However, at the end of the series finale, Gossip Girl’s identity is finally revealed. While the reveal was unprecedented and shocking, it is revealed that Dan Humphrey, or Lonely Boy as the characters would call him, is Gossip Girl. In his college days, Dan had enrolled in a blogging class at NYU and set up Gossip Girl with the intention to write and expose the secrets of the Upper East Side to the world, because of his own insecurities and envy of the elite socialites.
Nowadays, Gossip Girl is still a household name. And while its identity may have been revealed, it still stands as a timeless reminder of the power of secrets.
