The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is one of the most exciting times of the year for college basketball fans. This year’s Final Four will be held in Indianapolis on April 5 and 7, and the following four teams are in the running for the national title: the University of Virginia, the University of Auburn, the University of Texas Tech, and Michigan State University.
The University of Virginia Cavaliers earned their spot in the Final Four with a dramatic overtime victory against Purdue in the Elite Eight. This is the first time the school has earned a spot in the Final Four since 1984. After finishing the regular season as the regular season champs and the first seed in the ACC tournament, the Cavaliers have demonstrated they have what it takes to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
The University of Auburn Tigers, who came into the tournament as the fifth seed in the Midwest, pulled off a huge upset against the University of North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen. This marks their first trip to the Final Four since 1986. Led by their formidable backcourt duo, Bryce Brown and Jared Harper, the Tigers have been a force on both sides of the ball.
The University of Texas Tech Red Raiders, who were the third seed in the West, have made a remarkable run to the Final Four. After topping Gonzaga in an overtime thriller in the Elite Eight, the Red Raiders became the first ever Big 12 school to advance to the Final Four since Kansas in 2012. They are led by the stellar backcourt, Jarrett Culver and Matt Mooney, and boast the number one defense in the country.
Finally, Michigan State University Spartans are back in the Final Four for the 8th time in the Tom Izzo era. The Spartans, who were the second seed in the East, fought off a tough challenge from Duke in the Elite Eight, thanks in large part to Cassius Winston. The Spartans have made a name for themselves due to their outstanding defense, and they have a legitimate chance of getting to the championship game.
The Final Four should prove to be an exciting affair, and it will be exciting to see who comes out on top. After an intense month of March Madness, all four teams are now just two wins away from college basketball’s biggest stage. Who will prevail? We’ll just have to wait and see.
