Jocelyn Flores was an upcoming hip hop artist who tragically died at the age of only 17. She was born in Honduras and moved to Florida in 2001. Her brother raised her and she started rapping at a very young age. Her stage name was SK8TA, and her family and friends remember her as a social butterfly with a passion for music and life.
Her influence in the music scene was immense and she was close to being signed to a major label. Her songwriting was inspired by the struggles she and her brother faced in coming to the US. She was featured in US and international rap songs and showed potential that many say would have put her in the top of the rap industry.
Unfortunately, Jocelyn ended up taking her own life at 17 in the year 2017. Her death was discovered by police responding to reports of a suicide at her brother’s home in Pompano Beach.
Many of her fans and friends remembered her with tributes and memorial services. A fragment of one of Jocelyn’s unreleased songs "No Love Lost" was released on SoundCloud. A few months later, DJ Pasa released an official single titled "Jocelyn" that featured vocals from Jocelyn.
Her passing was mourned and her story was an inspiration for many. Jocelyn’s life was short, but she inspired many people with her talent and rugged, honest story. Indeed, her legacy lives on in the music industry and in the hearts of all those who knew her and were inspired by her.
