Joe Alwyn is an English actor and singer-songwriter best known for his roles in the films Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, The Favourite, Boy Erased, and Mary Queen of Scots. He has also appeared in popular TV shows such as A Teacher and The Crown.
Born in 1991 in London England, Alwyn’s parents are both teachers and he showed an affinity for the arts early on in life. He began his studies at the City of London In School, where he found success appearing in both stage plays, and the school’s award winning short film "Wait". This short film earned him a nomination for a BAFTA Rising Star award in 2011.
From there, his career only continued to expand, and he made his feature film debut in 2016’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. His portrayal of the soldier platoon member caught the attention of both critics and audiences, and he went on to star in the historical drama The Favourite and the acclaimed adaptation of Boy Erased. Alwyn most recently starred opposite Saoirse Ronan in Mary Queen of Scots, and is currently shooting for the upcoming drama Last Light.
In addition to his work in front of the camera, Alwyn is also a musician and composer. He released the self-titled EP “Joe Alwyn” in 2017, and is currently working on his debut album.
Through his wide range of roles and talents, Alwyn has become a fan favorite, as well as a respected figure in both the film and music industries. As a young and talented artist, Alwyn has a bright future ahead and is sure to remain a key figure in film and music for many years to come.
