Julian Lennon’s mother is Cynthia Lennon, who was married to The Beatles’ member John Lennon. Cynthia was an essential collaborator in the Beatles’ early years, transcribing John’s ideas into musical score as he described them, often helping John to realize his musical visions. She had married John Lennon in 1962 and was 21 when she gave birth to Julian, two years later.
John and Cynthia would eventually divorce, with Cynthia receiving custody of Julian. After his parents divorced in 1968, Cynthia worked hard to protect her son from media scrutiny while simultaneously trying to keep in touch with John. John’s death in 1980 left only Cynthia and Julian in the family, causing their bond to become even stronger.
Although Cynthia and Julian have not been particularly close in more recent years, they remain in contact and Cynthia has expressed admiration for the music that her son has produced. She even helped to co-write a few of his songs. She is also the author of a memoir, titled "John," that chronicles her life with John Lennon.
Cynthia continues to be a loving, supporting presence in Julian’s life, speaking highly of him and his music every opportunity she gets. She and Julian remain close, and their bond shows no sign of faltering.
