Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962) was an American actress, singer, model and pop icon who epitomized the 1950s sexuality. Known for her blond hair, hourglass figure, and trademark look that was both glamorous and girlish, Monroe is remembered as one of Hollywood’s most legendary figures.
Monroe began her career as a model, before transitioning to film and television. She starred in a number of box office hits such as The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959). She was one of the most popular actresses of the era, and her image was used to promoteproducts and brands. Her films provoked a great stir among both men and women, making her an influential sex symbol of the 1950s.
not only was Monroe famous for her work in films, she was also a talented singer, releasing her own solo album, as well as dueting with prominent singers at the time, such as Tony Bennett.
Monroe’s personal life also made her a celebrity. She was married to actor Arthur Miller and to legendary New York Yankees baseball player Joe DiMaggio. Her relationships were often in the public eye and made headlines.
After a tumultuous yet successful Hollywood career, Monroe died in August 1962 in her California home from a suspected overdose of sleeping pills. Her death was ruled a probable suicide. She left behind a legacy of films, music, and one of the most iconic images of all time. Her influence on the entertainment industry and popular culture is still felt today.
