Mark Zuckerberg is an American technology entrepreneur who is the co-founder and CEO of social networking service Facebook. Zuckerberg founded Facebook with fellow classmates Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin back in 2004. Since then, the platform has grown to over 2 billion active users.
Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York in 1984. He attended Harvard University, and from there launched a program which would eventually become Facebook. Initially branded as ‘The Facebook’, the site was quickly met with massive success as students from colleges around the country were able to use the service for contact and interaction.
Mark quickly became an iconic symbol of success when his story was parodied in the 2010 movie ‘The Social Network.’ In 2012 he made his first major philanthropic donation, when he and his wife Priscilla Chan committed $100 million to New Jersey public schools.
Since then he has made a habit of donating large sums of money to charity. In December of 2015, he and Chan donated 99 percent of their Facebook shares, then worth over 45 billion dollars, to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. In 2016, he and his wife founded the Breakthrough Energy Coalition to advance clean energy research and promote clean energy projects worldwide.
Today, Mark Zuckerberg is one of the wealthiest and most influential people in the world. With a net worth of over $50 billion, he is a leader in both the technology and philanthropy arenas, and is widely respected as a businessman and a social leader.
