Michael K. Williams is an American actor best known for his role as Omar Little in the HBO series The Wire and Dr.Patrick Bobby in the FX series, The Americans. He is also known for his roles in films such as HBO’s Bessie, Gone Baby Gone, The Road, Twelve Years a Slave, and When They See Us.
Williams was born in New York City in 1966. He had a troubled childhood and was eventually sent to juvenile detention and still managed to graduate from the Fleet Academy, a military school. After his honorably discharge, he moved back to New York and found a place with an acting coach and started his career.
Williams has been nominated for several awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series for The Wire and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his performance in Bessie. He recently starred in the successful feature film The Irishman.
Williams’ TV credits include Boardwalk Empire, which won him an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a drama series, as well as roles in Law & Order and Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and Biggie and Law & Order: SVU.
Throughout his career, Williams has forged a formidable reputation, with a unique intensity of performances. His allure is easy to understand – an uncompromising actor, playing broken but still powerful characters, that can charm audiences with his undeniable charisma. He continues to inspire and entertain viewers around the world.
In his own words, Williams says “If you can find it in your heart to love yourself and your humanity, there’s no limit to what you can do. As a black man, I want to see my kind of people living freely and being themselves. I want to provide that inspiration.”
